Unit 14 discussed coursebooks and lesson materials. Teachers can use authentic and created materials. Authentic materials are helpful because students can use them in real life and compare them to their own experiences. Created materials are also great because teachers can tailor them to their specific needs/language level. When choosing materials, teachers should take into account: price, availability, design, methodology, skills, difficulty, syllabus, topics, teacher’s guide, and supplementary materials. Great teachers should use a combination of authentic and created materials, as well as their coursebooks to better suit their students’ needs and make lessons more interesting.
