This unit presented different ways to test a student's English language abilities in order to place them in a class suitable to their level, as well as ways to test a student's progress throughout the course. The most effective way to keep track of the students' progress is to give them short quizzes regularly. This way I can continue to adapt the lessons to their needs, based on areas of English they may have difficulty with. Tests are a good way to grade the students, but the best way to truly measure how proficient a student is in English is by talking to them during class and seeing how well they are able to communicate. Though the students are learning English for communication purposes, many of them are also learning so that they can pass exams in the future such as the TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC so that they may be certified for future work endeavors. It is also important to ask students how well they think they are being taught by having them fill out questionnaires, so that I may change the lesson plan to focus on areas they would like to improve.
