After watching both the videos, I could compare and contrast the differences between an effective and non-effective lesson. First of all, I could see how important an effective Engage phase. In the first video, the students were not engaged and were even confused. In the second video, he was able to warm the students up for the lesson. He also had a very negative attitude in the first lesson. For example, he put students down and called some students losers when they couldn't get the answers correctly. In the second video, he had a much more positive attitude when the students struggled to find the answer. He also explained the Study and Activate phase activities well in the second lesson as opposed to the first lesson where he only told them to do the activity. Overall, it's important to have a positive attitude and to encourage students rather than beat them down, and also to be prepared to teach the lesson. I learned a lot from the videos and was glad I was able to see a comparison between an effective vs. non-effective lesson.
