This unit guides us to the common problems and situations that a teacher encounters in English class, as well as the techniques and skills of dealing with them. As a new teacher, I've encountered most of the situations mentioned in this unit and it's so true that dealing with these problems and situations can be very complicated when the students' English level varies. The most annoying situation that I've constantly encountered is to face the students' native language. Before this unit, I hadn't found any solution to cope with it. This unit makes me realize that many teachers face my situation and to improve it I need to take some actions. First, reinforce English class rules- English only. Secondly, encourage the students to speak more English. Thirdly, if the students still speak their native language, I shouldn't response. I responded in English before and the situation got worse and worse. I'm thinking if it would be a good idea to teach the students what they want to say in English to help them to gain the insight how to use English to express themselves. I've tried a few times and it worked.
Lastly, thank all of the units teaching the techniques and skills of coping with the situations in English class. This online course is very practical and helpful. And it's going to be priceless in my future teaching career.
