This unit focused on pronunciation and phonology (ie the study of the sounds of words). The section on pronunciation dealt with the three areas of stress, rhythm and intonation. It was interesting to note that a survey of students expressed the area of pronunciation as one of the important areas in their language learning experience. The phonology section introduced the International Phonetic (or Phonemic) Alphabet, which is the classification and representation of every known sound in human speech.
