Phonetics proved to be more difficult than the previous units. I might as well be learning a new alphabet! Or a blurry version of the alphabet system I already know. Intonation was an interesting section because it all became obvious once I put thought to my involuntary actions. It's clear how that would be important to language fluency and how easily it could get passed over in a lesson plan. The intricacies of native English speaking escapes you until it's pointed out. Syllabic stresses and correct pronunciation can change the meaning of your words all too quickly. Learning the anatomy of speaking provides a nice foundation for understanding mistakes students might make in pronunciation due to language sound differences.
