Classes that include students that are not the average adult trying to get a general education in the English language are considered special classes. This refers to teaching children, courses for specific purposes in a professional setting, giving one-on-one lessons and the variety of people that fall under the "beginners" category. Even though these types of classes are out of the ordinary and require their own skill set from the teacher, there are certain things that can be taken into account across the board. First, know your audience. Get a needs assessment from the students appropriate to class size, purpose and diversity of students. This is a foundation to build lesson plans from. Keep lessons varied and dynamic to maintain student interest. Speak clearly and confidently in English. Have patience and be encouraging with students remembering that external factors affect what happens in the classroom. Get to know your students as this will make the education process more inclusive for the class in general and stimulate the learning environment using relevant activities.
