There are two important productive skills: speaking and writing. Each offer their own unique challenges. With writing, one must be more accurate since clarification cannot be made on the spot. With speaking, a greater range of vocabulary may be required, and there is less time to plan out what they would like to say. Most activities will typically either focus on accuracy or fluency. Accuracy activities will check for correctness from the students and are typically more controlled by the teacher. Fluency activities will typically help with overall communication for the students and is less controlled by the teacher. Three things are mainly focused on for writing: handwriting, spelling, and layout and punctuation. Each of these can present challenges to the students and should therefore be practiced.
