The unit began by discussing methodologies for teaching. There are many different methods such as Grammar-translation, Task-based learning, and more. Not one of these methods is necessarily the best and most effective. Therefore, like most things concerned with education, the educator must use a combination of all of these methods to effectively help the students learn. The lesson also discusses that students must be motivated, then have exposure to the language, and then have the opportunity to use it. The three elements were coined as Engage, Study, and Activate. There are many different combinations that these three aspects can be integrated into the lesson with, but they must all be there. There are also many different activities that can be used in order to effectively complete each part of ESA.
