There are four things that students need to do with new language:
1. to exposed to it
2. understand its meaning
3. understand how it’s constructed
4. be able to practice and produce it
Grammar is the tree trunk and branches of a language while vocabulary and functions are the leaves that add beauty and variety.
Vocabulary is very important, especially in the early stages when students are motivated to learn the basic words they need to get by in the language.
there are a number of factors from which depends how easy and difficult a vocabulary item is:
1. similarity to students’ own language
2. appropiacy
3. spelling and pronunciaton
4. similarity to English words already known
The students will also need to know what the language means, how it’s used, what the grammatical form is and how it is said and written.
Besides grammar and vocabulary, language also consists of functions. Language functions include areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing, suggesting.
