Authentic materials were covered. These are any sources of native language that a speaker might see or hear that are not directly designed for teaching purposes. Created materials are things that the teacher designs specifically for the students. Each of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. Authentic materials would not typically be used for beginner speakers. This unit also gave several examples of created materials that would be useful for the classroom such as telephone role play cards and a word search. It also discussed coursebooks. These can typically provide a good and steady reference for the class. However, they should be supplemented by other created materials as well. There are four different options for course book use: omit, replace, supplement, and adapt.
