This unit discussed pronunciation. This is probably the most neglected part of learning a new language, but it can have a large impact when speaking. Intonation was discussed which is the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence. Other things than just the voice can be used to help teach or convey intonation such as nonsense words, gestures, humming, and writing marks on the board. Stress was also discussed in terms of which words or syllables are stressed in a sentence. Similar things to intonation can be used to help convey stress ideas too. Sound joining is another challenge that students must learn about which can include linking, sound dropping, sound changing, and extra lettering. Articulation was also dealt with in this chapter: deals with mouth positions and the vocal cords. Peer dictation, the teacher/s mouth, visuals, phonemes, and tongue twisters are all great ways to help students better learn to articulate.
