While teaching, there are many different ways of evaluating students' progress and levels, and there are also some external exams that you as the teacher might need to prepare them for. Several different kinds of tests to consider and use would be: placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests, practice tests, general admission tests, and external tests. Placement tests are designed to place new students into the correct class according to their language ability. Progress tests gauge what language has been remembered or acquired and what has been forgotten. Diagnostic tests are used at the start of the course to see what students already know. Practice tests follow the format and structure of external exams to help students prepare for them. External exams can include many different kids of exams. An example would be the American English exam which is required by most US universities for admission.
