Future tenses
There are seven future tenses:
1. The future simple
2. The future continuous
3. The future perfect
4. The future perfect continuous
5. Be going + infinitive
6. The present simple
7. The present continuous
The future simple indicates actions in the future. We use it for future facts and certainties, promises, predictions and spontaneous decisions.
It forms: will/shall + verb
e.g. I will do my homework tomorrow.
The future continuous is used to indicate an action in progress at a particular time in the future.
It forms: subject + will/shall + be + verb + ing
e.g. At 4 pm tomorrow I will be doing my homework.
The future perfect is used to talk about an action in the future that will be completed by a point in the future.
It forms: will + have + past participle
e.g. By 6 pm tomorrow I will have been doing my homework.
The future perfect continuous is used to talk about how long an action had been taking place up until a certain point in the future.
It forms: will + have + been + verb + ing
e.g. At 7 pm tomorrow I will have been doing my homework for 2 hours.
“Going to” future is used for plans, decisions made before speanking, intentions, predictions based on present evidence.
It forms: to be (present) + going to + verb (base form)
e.g. I am going to play tennis tomorrow.
