The four present tenses are really easy for native speakers of English to differentiate and use, but for English-Language learners it is really challenging. I think the most challenging is the present perfect tense because students can easily mistake it for being interchangeable with simple past tense. Fortunately, this unit clearly explained when to use the present perfect. Unfortunately, the language used to explain it to me is most likely too difficult for my students. I would have liked to see a way of presenting it to the students in a way they could understand.
Using the present perfect to discuss experience (I have played soccer before) and length of experience (I have lived here for 5 years) is easy, but I have seen my students struggle with the switch back to past tense for talking about definite times events occurred. I have tried using timelines and all sorts of things to show the difference between present perfect and simple past, but many students still struggle with it.
