This unit focused on evaluation and testing. A teacher should be continuously evaluating students' progress throughout the course. Sometimes, though, more formal evaluations and testing are helpful. Tests are a very common way to determine what a student knows. There are different types of test that are used. Placement and diagnostic tests are often used at the beginning of course to determine what level class a student should be in and what they already know. Progress tests are used throughout a course and usually cover what the students just learned. They can be helpful for both teacher and student to make sure the material is understood. Practice tests are used to help students prepare for external examinations. External examinations can be important for students who want to study at an English-speaking school, to live in an English-speaking country, or to help them with business.
