This first unit describes the qualities and practices of good teachers and good students and how they can interact most successfully. If a teacher is aware of these qualities he or she can better make sure that the interactions with the student will be positive so that success is almost ensured. Teachers need to be kind, patient and able to connect to their students, making all of them feel appreciated and capable of success.
Teachers need to be able to assume a variety of roles in order to meet the different needs of the students and in order to vary the language-learning activities. This is part of enabling a lively and perhaps humorous environment where students enjoy being as well as experimenting with the new language. If there is a palpable connection between teacher and all students and a playful approach to learning can be utilized, students will be more willing to make and correct their mistakes on the way to mastery of a new language.
