I learned a lot from this unit, not only about teaching English Language Learners receptive skills, but also about teaching them to my class in general. Receptive skills, both reading and listening, are very important, and greatly affect a student's ability to feel confident and find success in his or her studies. The part I found most interesting was about the idea of written language being 'captured' versus oral language, meaning students have many chances to revisit the text until they understand it. This reminded me of how important practicing both receptive skills is to developing strong English Language Learners.
