The first part of this unit introdoces many different ESL methodologies. Among this methodologies, the ones that stand out, in my opnion, are Audio - ligualism;Presentation, Practice and Production; Task-Based Learning; and Engage, Study and Activate(ESA). The methodology explained in more detail in the unit 3 is the ESA since it is considered to be the most effective and the most logical for new teachers. This method divides the lesson in three stages. The first one is engaging the students. In this stage the teacher gives a simple activity to the students so they can start thinking in English in the beginning of the class. After that, it is the study stage, which the students will be exposed to new information and then practice with exercises focused on the new topic. The third stage is the activate mode. In this stage, the students are encouraged to use the language they know. The focus on this stage is fluency rather than accuracy. Although the 3 stages should be present in most lessons, the ESA methodology does not require those 3 elements to be always in the same order as long as the lesson starts with an Engage stage and finishs with an Activate stage.
