Four past tenses are talked about in this unit:past simple, past continuous,past perfect, past perfect continuous.
In every part, these four aspects are talked about: forms, usages,common mistakes/errors,sample activate teaching ideas. There are some verbs which has the regular form, which have no regular forms.We need to memorize the irregular forms as well.
Among the four parts, usage part is the most important part for me.
For past simple, it is used for actions completed at a definite time in the past.
For past continuous, 1) it is for interrupted past actions. 2) it is used without a time expression, it can indicate gradual development that took place in the past. 3)It can express an action which began before that time and probably continued after it.4)We use continuous tense in descriptions.
Past perfect is the past equivalent of the present perfect.
Past perfect continuous talks about the longer actions or situations in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about.
