This unit was about choosing course books and lesson materials. A teacher may or may not be allowed to choose the actual book they use, but they do have control over how they shape their lessons and what supporting materials they use. This unit emphasized how authentic materials can help motivate students and give them confidence for real-life situations. A teacher needs to use authentic materials carefully so that they are appropriate for the level that the students are at. Created materials are abundant and can more easily target where the students are at. However, they may not be as interesting and can easily be dated. Whether or not the teacher is the one to pick the course book, the teacher can use the book in a way that is beneficial to the students. The teacher should think about adding creativity, interest, and helpful targeting of their unique class.
