This course explained and defined "receptive skills" as reading and listening, and "productive skills" as speaking and writing. These are equally important skill sets and it is therefore important to incorporate each of them when planning lessons. This will create an "integrated" skills lesson. The unit also explained how one piece of study material can be used to practice all of the skill sets, which will create a greater understanding of the language, and allow the students to use it in a wider context and situation.
