This unit focused on the theory, methodology, and techniques used when teaching. There are many different methodologies that can and have been used to teach English. While there may be some merit in all of them, the ESA method will be used throughout this course as it incorporates the best methodologies into one system. The 'E' is for engage. At this stage, the teacher is getting every student to talk and to get interested in the lesson. The 'S' is for study. This is often the more formal teaching time and worksheets may be involved. Typically, the teacher would have a specific focus for this time such as a specific grammar rule or how to use a certain tense. The 'A' is for activate. Again, students should be talking and using things they have just learned in the study portion as well as previous knowledge. It should be bringing things together. It is a time that a teacher can see if the students understand the lesson.
