This unit talks about teaching receptive skills. I learned receptive skills are reading and listening. Motives for reading and one can be divided into two broad categories, purpose and entertainment. There are certain skills people use when reading or listening such as predictive skills, scanning, skimming, searching for detailed information and using deduction from context. In teaching receptive skills it is important to choose materials that interest the students, vary in type of material and uses realistic comprehension tasks that aid in understanding.
