Not every sentence is as straight forward as "I ate food today." In fact, a sentence can be made up of more than one clause. Hence, I present "Conditionals". Containing either "if" or "when", conditionals are sentences that report the "issue" and how that issue can be "satisfied" before you close with a punctuation. For instance:
"If I had listened to my parents, I would not have gotten lost."
The tenses can change depending on what type of conditional is being spoken.
Reported speech and how their tenses change was also covered in this lesson. For example, when you hear news of a friend leaving for the summer, the way you report that information to others may change as you tell others.
i.e. Jenny said, "I'm (I + AM) leaving for Memphis next month."
and you report back to your family, "Jenny said that she's leaving for Memphis next month (SHE+IS).
These can trip up new students from time to time, so it's important to take things one "bite at a time."
