This unit covered course books and materials teachers may use in their EFL classrooms. Materials can be authentic, which are not designed for EFL students but demonstrate real English which can be more interesting and motivating for students to engage with. While they are not graded to the level of EFL students, authentic materials build students' confidence once students are able to understand them. Teachers can also create materials. While these materials make more work for the teacher, they are also graded to the level of the students and can support the course book used in class. By using a variety of created materials, the teacher can get students to use the language they learn in many interesting ways. Among the benefits, course books provide structure to a class and a steady build of language throughout the book. However, not all textbooks are geared towards the country in which they are used, so some explanations might not meet the language needs of students of different language backgrounds. It's important for teachers to omit, replace, supplement, or adapt course books as necessary.
