It's so great to know that there are so many resources I can use in the classroom to help aid and structure my lessons, as well as make them more engaging for my students. I've learned the benefits and drawbacks of different types of media and materials in the classroom, as well as important things to know when using them. For example, it's important to have a backup plan when trying to use an IWB. The system can fail and it's also new and tricky technology to learn. I also learned that many teachers find showing films in short segments over time is motivating for students, which I remember enjoying as well when I was in school, but it's important that they still have a specific purpose in the lesson and that there is some sort of follow-up activity. I had fun with the task that was given in this lesson, looking for comedy videos online lead me down a long path! I ended up finding a Jimmy Kimmel (American comedian) clip where he asks kids what they would do if they had a million dollars, and kids always have very funny responses. Kids language is often simple as well so it would be easier for the intermediate level to understand. This would be a perfect tool for the conditionals lesson, particularly the "second" conditional. I would first prep the students on any potential new vocabulary in the video that they wouldn't understand, and ask them if they know who Jimmy Kimmel is, and explain who he is if not. Then I'd show the video as part of the engage stage. Then I'd use the board, or possibly other useful materials I may find online for the structure/usage part of the lesson, and use overhead projection. Then I'd find a worksheet with a "complete the conditional" sheet. I'd get feedback from the class on answers and go through any mistakes/confusion. Now that they've learned the structure and usage, I'd play the video again to drill it in. I'd then ask them to repeat, from memory what they heard the kids say in the video. One of the kids mentions that he would have a mansion with jello inside it. I would have them draw their dream house and what they would have inside it. Then present back to the class, saying "If I had a million dollars, I would have..."
