There are 5 conditionals. Zero conditionals are used for irrefutable facts and actions. First conditionals are used for "real" situations that have possible, probably, or even certain outcomes once the condition is met. Second conditionals are used for unlikely future hypotheticals. Third conditionals indicate a hypothetical past action or non-action whose outcome is impossible because the past action never happened. Mixed conditionals are used for a hypothetical past action and a current outcome that didn't and probably won't happen.
Changing speech from direct to reported requires changes in the subject, tense, and "timing" words in the sentence. Questions must be reworded to reflect who asked whom what question. In the section on reported speech, I got a lot of good ideas and for the classroom. I have never had the opportunity to do a lesson based on this, but I think reported speech activities lend themselves to great amounts of student talk time.
