When teaching different groups English, you will always (ALWAYS) have to approach it differently from the others. Not only are there different levels of beginners to begin with, but there comes different age groups (children vs young adults vs adults-seniors!), different reasons for being there (levels of motivations and interests), and different sections of occupations (i.e. business, students who wish to travel oversees etc). The "pool" is great, so a teacher must always become aware and be prepared to approach the class in the most effective, most appropriate way.
I thought it was interesting how this unit reiterated the importance of strictly speaking English in the classroom for the students' benefit, but also not to become overly uptight if there is some discussion happening between students in their mother tongue. In most cases, before or briefly during activities and instruction, there may be clarification happening amongst peers and in this case it could greatly speed things along.
