In this unit I found out about the receptive skills and how to teach them. Reading and listening are receptive skills as they used in receiving information. When we listen and read we use our minds to process the words in our pre-existent knowledge to truly understand their meaning. Reading and listening skills require a number of other skills such as predictive skills, scanning skills, ability to get the general understanding of the content, deduction skills and so on. To avoid problems with listening and writing teachers have to carefully select texts and pre-teach vocabulary.
