First lessons should be carefully planned as to establish rapport with the students. The teacher can do this in ways such as playing games and doing ice breakers. They also should get a general grasp of the level of the students. In large classes, the teacher can use activities such as pair work, choral drilling, group leaders, and worksheets. Some kids may use the native language in the classroom for quick clarification from peers, but it should not be encouraged by the teacher. The teacher should always have listening activities as well.
