Conditionals are sentences containing the word "if" or similar hypothetical expressions. They are used for situations that depend on a certain clause. There is the zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditional. Actual speech is called direct speech while reported speech is a third-person account of what the actual speech was. Reported speech calls for changes in the tense used. There are also time expressions used in reported speech. For example, "tomorrow" is "the next day" and "yesterday" is "the previous day". It's important to teach these concepts slowly as the possibility for errors are high.
