Unit 15 covers a wide area of testing and evaluation for English language learners. Gathering a baseline of knowledge through placement and diagnostic testing seems necessary to start a class and plan lessons. Evaluating periodically through progress tests can assist a teacher in re-calibrating lesson plans. This kind of periodic testing could offer insight to what areas the learners may need to spend more class time on so students are on track before they reach a point where the stakes are higher with an achievement test. Likewise, practice tests that are tailored to external exams can prepare students for the types of summary evaluations needed for accreditation to continue education or careers.
My own goals have been focused on beginning learners and this section of the course reminded me that there are many who are not at the beginning of their journey to learn English but are preparing for transfer to universities overseas, or business opportunities that can move them forward in life.
