The last unit of this course discussed about common problem situations that may occur in teaching English. The first lesson is crucial that's why teachers need to establish rapport with the students and set the tone for the rest of the course. It is equally important as well for teachers to find out what the students' needs and interests are, and their individual English levels. Warmers are also vital because they help get the students motivated and get ready in using the English language. One of the biggest challenge a teacher might face is a group where students are at varying levels. Using different materials or same materials with different tasks and pairing strong students with weaker ones are strategies that help with this dilemma. Another problem is having large classes. A number of techniques can be used to address this problem such as using worksheets, having pair/group work, choral repetition, clarity and dynamics. Moreover, using of native language, having reluctant students and difficulties with listening texts are some of the common problems in teaching English to non-native speakers. Overall, this course have been very helpful for new teachers like me and have imparted a great deal of knowledge, methods and techniques that were proven to be very useful in teaching English to non-native speakers.
