In this unit, we considered methods to build receptive language skills. To be honest, I have my doubts that receptive language skills can be adequately developed in a classroom setting; for the amount of volume that is required, the learner must surely engage in some sort of habitual reading or listening activity outside of the classroom. I would therefore hypothesize that the most effective manner of teaching receptive skills would be to engage the student's interest in such a way that they seek out English-language media outside the classroom. In any case, this unit contained helpful advice, such as mentioning that student's interests may not align with teacher's interests, and that it is important to ensure that the students are interested in the material.
