A lesson plan is a teachers detailed description of the course of instruction for the lesson. It is important to have a lesson plan because its acts as a teachers guide for running a particular lesson, it includes the goal/learning objective ,methods or procedure to achieve that learning objective and a way of measuring how well the goal was reached.
