This unit was based on coursebooks and lesson materials. As we are already aware of, some teachers swear by coursebooks and other teachers despise them. Course books are a very emotive issue for teachers. I have learnt that materials used can be divided into two groups, namely, authentic materials and created materials. We use authentic materials because they are real and therefore me interesting and motivating, learners gain confidence when they understand them, they can be geared to the interests of a particular group of the learners. Created materials are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book, examples of these can include, crosswords, word search puzzles and role-play cards.
