This final unit talks about the common difficulties that a teacher could encounter in the classroom, as well as how to overcome these obstacles. In this chapter, I have learned the followings:
- How should the teacher start his first lesson, and which activity would be appropriate to act as an ice breaker (e.g. pass the ball game).
- What warmer activities I could use to motivate the students as they arrive in class.
- How to manage a large classroom (more than 30 people).
- How to deal with a group of students who are at varying levels.
- How to minimize the use of students' native language in class, while not outright banning the use of the students' mother tongue.
- How to encourage reluctant students to participe in class.
These topics would be very useful for me as I become a full-fledged English teacher, since the aforementioned issues are very common reoccurences when teaching language.
