This unit taught me about the options for teaching aids and the effectiveness for each. Boards are good for many things such as writing, drawing, projecting overheads, and they hold the attention of students effectively, where as overhead projectors are useful as they can be prepared beforehand and reduce the amount of time the teacher has their back to the class. Visual aids can be used for presenting new vocabulary items and are used to illustrate meaning easier than through verbal explanation. There are many other useful aid such as worksheets, cassettes, CD players, videos and DVD's, which can be used to build listening comprehensive skills, and video cameras. Every classroom should also have dictionaries as they not only help students look up the meaning, but also the pronunciation and usage of a word.
