Unit Ten was very helpful in getting into the consciousness of being a teacher. The contrast between the first and second videos shows how teaching styles can create either student confusion, or a positive learning environment.
Video one shows the teacher to be more interested in score keeping and knowing who "lost" than in making sure the activity had learning value, as well as being enjoyable for the students. In contrast, the second video showed the teacher not only listing the names of the Bingo winners, but also eliciting correct number vocabulary by using the words first, second, third, and so forth.
Video one teacher did not complete the 3 X 3 drill to check to see if individual students were correctly pronouncing the word. Video two teacher did the 3X3 drill correctly. After the group as a whole had repeated the word three times, he randomly called on three different students to hear their individual pronunciation.
It is difficult to realize it is the same teacher, the same students and the same lesson in both videos. I noticed my own personal feelings while watching the videos. I felt confused during video one, but interested and responsive during video two. In fact, I wanted to join the class.
