In this unit I learned about teaching vocabulary to students. I learned about language functions such as inviting, suggesting and agreeing. According to the unit, the criteria for selecting which vocabulary to teach include appropriacy to students, appropriacy to tasks, how often the students are likely to use the vocabulary, and its teachability according to the level of the students. For example, beginner students need clear and visual language. I also learned about what students need to know about a vocabulary item. They need to know its meaning, appropriate use, where it belongs in a sentence and how it affects other words, as well as its spelling and pronunciation. This unit also explains about what students need to know about grammatical structures. They need to know what the language means, how and when it is used, forms and patterns of language, as well as spoken and written forms and if there are differences between the two. An example of this difference would be "I am going" in written form, which becomes "I'm gonna" in the spoken form.
