There are four basic skills in any language:
-receptive:reading and listening
-productive:speaking and writing
Reasons for reading and listening.
We can divide the reasons and motives for reading and listening into 2 fairly wide-ranging categories:
1.for a purpose
2 for entertainment
Readers and listeners employ a number of specialist skills when reading or listening and their understanding of the context will depend on their expertise in these areas:
1.predictive skills
2.specific information-scanning
3.general idea-skimming
4.detailed information
5.deduction from the context
Language.
1.Pre-teaching vocabulary:one way of helping students is to teach them difficult unknown language and structures,prior to commencing a reading or listening activity.
2.careful selection of the texts:if the teacher is careful as to the listening and reading materials presented to the students he,she can expose the students to a variety of authentic and non-authentic texts.
In this unit I have learnt about the importance of receptive skills.
