In unit No. 3, we are focusing teaching methods for Foreign Learners of English. We got introduced to the ESA methodology which consists of Engage, Study, and Activate. In the first stage, the teacher must have the attention of students and involve them emotionally. Students who are involved often perform better and are better behaved. Some activities that engage students include games, stories, music,and pictures. During the second stage, the focus is on language and how it is constructed. New information or revision of previously learned information can be included during this time. The teacher can use variety of styles to present the information, focusing on grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation. In the last stage, exercises and activities are designed for students to use English in communication, refreshing what they have learned. Without the activate element, students will have trouble taking their classroom experience into real-world communication. There three types of ESA methods. They are straight line, Boomerang, and Patchwork.
