The content of this unit focuses on pronunciation (including stress and intonation) and phonology. There are many features that revolve around pronunciation and that students need to learn in order for them to be able to communicate correctly. As this unit states: "intonation carries the message in a sentence" and is therefore very important. Stress in a sentence also has a role in carrying a specific message and is therefore essential as well. This unit explains very well which activities and techniques can be used to teach students the importance of these features in the English language. The Phonemic alphabet is also an important part of this unit as it describes all the sounds that are present in English words. This alphabet can be extremely useful for learners as they can have a clearer understating of the pronunciation of certain words and how to clearly articulate sounds from the English language.
I have learned a lot from this unit, particularly when in comes to phonemic symbols and how it can help learners with their pronunciation, articulation (manner and place) and also techniques to teach all this material to students. There are many features that play a role in pronunciation and all those features are in this unit.
