The unit explains how to introduce new vocabulary and grammatical structures to students. The vocabulary chosen should always be appropriate for both the teacher and the student, whether or not it is easy or simple to teach, and whether or not the vocabulary in question appears frequently or infrequently in regular language usage. Similarly, the grammatical structures taught should have a clear meaning, a clear situation in which it is used, and should follow a clear pattern or concept that ensures that the students can comprehend it easily. The unit then suggests different activities suitable to teaching vocabulary and grammar in the Engage, Study, and Activate phases of a class.
