I have understood that a thourough grasp of phonetics is highly important in teaching, more for the teacher than the students, in practical terms, ie. making students read phonetic script is probably not very helpful in the learning process. I imagine this would just confuse them. Intonation is of the utmost importance; building on the last unit which highlighted the need for a teacher to smile, elicit target language in order to engage students.
