Unit 18 focuses on three important grammar points: Modal auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs and the passive voice. Modals are used to express different degrees of formality, probability, requests etc... They are extremely common in the English language and therefore need to be properly understood. Phrasal verbs are "multi-word verbs" and can be classified into three different categories: Type 1-Intransitive, Type 2-Transitive separable and Type 3-Transitive inseparable. Although the three types may seem quite similar they do have slight differences. The passive voice is another very important grammar point. This unit explains very well the difference between the active voice and the passive voice by providing many examples and a chart with the tense and the passive formation that matches.
I learned a lot while studying this unit mainly about phrasal verbs and especially its three different types as this particular part of the English grammar was quite new to me. I found that this unit also provides a very useful chart with all the main modals and their usages which helps immensely with the proper understanding of modal auxiliary verbs.
