Unit 11 gave us an overview of Receptive Skills (Reading/Listening), so it makes sense that Unit 12 would follow up with an overview of the Productive Skills (Writing/Speaking). This unit gave us some of the factors that would lead someone to use these skills (e.g. 'Wanting to say something') and why we as teachers should want to incorporate these factors into our lesson plan.
We got a good breakdown of Accuracy/Fluency activities for speaking in the classroom, and how they can best be employed in order to find a balance between making sure that the students are learning the language points, but also feel comfortable enough to experiment with the language. Further, we were exposed to a a sample lesson plan for a speaking activity, and some of the guidelines that we should try to adhere to so as to make sure students are engaged and well-prepared for the lesson.
As far as the writing side of productive skills, Unit 12 laid out the inherent factors/potential complications for a student learning English (e.g. spelling, punctuation, handwriting) that we as teachers should be aware of. We were also given a model lesson plan for a writing activity, and a great list of games that can be used to engage students and facilitate classroom understanding. I feel that a whole unit could be devoted to Classroom Games, their practical applications, and how best to implement with particular lesson plan structures.
