I thought it was interesting that the unit discourages the use of a student's native language, even for a beginner. While I agree with this recommendation, it goes against my experience as a foreign language learner, as all of my teachers leaned heavily on my native language to explain concepts.
With regards to teaching children, the unit recommends avoiding tactics that may increase a child's anxiety level, like putting them on the spot, and encourages making the lesson engaging, decorating the classroom, miming and such.
