This lesson helped me to distinguish clearly the receptive skills that are reading and listening versus the productive skills that are speaking and writing. What is needed related to receptive skills are the precdictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from the context. It is the teacher's task to select interesting texts (variety of authentic and non-authentic ones), to build interest before reading or listening and to vary the type of material to motivate the students.
